What is internet?

The Internet is the world’s largest network of networks.  Here all the networks are connected with each other.  It is a global computer network that provides many types of information and communication facilities.

It is actually a very large network of interconnected networks and together they use standardized communication protocols to stay connected with each other.

This network is called media or transmission media in the language of Internet.  By the way, I will give some more information, this net is a kind of wire, in which information and data keeps on roaming around the world.  This data can be “text, image, mp3, video” out of all these, more often text, image, mp3, video are searched on the Internet.

Data and information in the net come through Router and Server, Router and Server connect all the computers in the world, when the message goes from one computer to another, then a protocol works whose name is IP.  (Internet Protocol), Protocol means “the rules for running the Internet which are written in programming”.

 Full Form Of Internet

The full form of Internet is Interconnected Network.  Which is actually a very big network of all Web Servers Worldwide.  Therefore it is also called the World Wide Web or simply the Web in many places.

This network includes many such private and public organizations, schools and colleges, research centers, hospitals as well as many servers all over the world.

Internet is a collection of interconnected networks, i.e.  network of networks.  It is made up of many interconnected gateways androuters being connected to each other all over the world.

 Who Discovered The Internet

It was not just a matter of one person being able to invent the Internet.  Many scientists and engineers were needed to make it.  In 1957, at the time of COLD WAR, America established the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) whose purpose was to create a technology so that one computer could be connected to another computer.

In 1969, this agency established ARPANET.  So that any computer could be connected to any computer.

By the year 1980, its name became Internet.  Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn invented the TCP/IP protocol in the 1970s, and in 1972, Ray Tomlinson first introduced the Email Network.

When did the Internet start?

The Internet started from January 1, 1983.  When ARPANET adopted TCP/IP on January 1, 1983, and after that researchers started assembling them.  At that time it was called “network of networks”, later in modern times it is known as Internet.

When was internet started in India?

Internet service was made publicly available in India on 14 August 1995 when it was launched by the state-owned Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL).

 Definition Of Internet

The Internet is actually a global wide area network that connects computer systems around the world.  It consists of many high-bandwidth data lines which are called the “backbone” of the Internet.  These lines are connected with major Internet hubs that distribute data to other locations, such as web servers and ISPs.

Whereas, if you want to connect to the Internet, then you must have access to an Internet service provider (ISP), which acts as a middleman between you and the Internet.

Most ISPs provide broadband Internet access via a cable, DSL, or fiber connection.  When you are connected to the Internet via a public Wi-Fi signal, a Wi-Fi router is also connected to an ISP to provide you with the Internet.

Whereas cellular data towers also have to be connected to one or the other Internet service provider to provide internet access to the connected devices.

 Features of the Internet

Let us now know about the features of the Internet, which are very important to know.

World Wide Web

 1. The World Wide Web is a part of the Internet, which supports hypertext documents, while it allows users to view and navigate different types of data.

 2. There is a web page  such a document which is encoded with  hypertext markup language (HTML) tags.

 3. HTML allows designers to be linked together via hyperlinks.

 4. Every web page has an address, which is called uniform resource locator (URL).

 Telnet

 1. Telnet is a specialized service that allows you to access the contents of another computer using a computer with the help of a telnet host.

 2. Creates a telnet program on a “Window” host so that you can access files, issue commands, and exchange data.

 3. Telnet is widely used by libraries so that it allows visitors to view information, find articles, etc.

 File Transfer Protocol

 1. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is an internet tool used to copy files from one computer to another.

 2. Using a special FTP program or a web browser, you can log in to an ETP host computer, over the internet and copy your computer’s files.

 3. FTP is very handy to find and copy software files, while you can do the same with articles and other types of data types.  Universities and software companies use FTP servers so that they can allow visitors to access data.

 INTERNET RELAY CHAT (IRC)

 1. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a service that allows users to communicate with each other in real-time by typing text in a special window.

 1. Just like news, there are hundreds of IRC “channels” and each one is dedicated to a single subject or user group.

 3. If you wish, you can use a special IRC program to participate in these chat room discussions, but most chat rooms are set up on the website itself, which enables visitors directly from their browser window.  to chat.

 What is intranet?

Intranet is such a private network that is often seen in a single enterprise.  It usually consists of many interlinked local area networks and also uses leased lines in a wide area network.

Typically, in an intranet, only one or more gateway computers are connected to the external Internet.

The main job of Intranet is to share the information and computing resources of a company only among the employees.  At the same time, intranet can also be used for teleconferences between working groups.

Wherein intranet uses TCP/IP, HTTP, and other Internet protocols.  That’s why it usually looks like a private version of the Internet.

What is the difference between Internet and Intranet?

Here you will know what is the difference between Internet and Intranet.

 Meaning of intranet

Intranet is a part of the Internet which is privately owned by any one organization.  It interconnects all its computers and provides access to all its files and folders within the network itself.

It also has a firewall that surrounds the system, so that it prevents any unauthorized user from accessing the network.  Only authorized users have permission to access this network.

At the same time, Intranet is used to connect computers and transmit data that too within a company network.  This is a secure way to share details, materials, and folders because the network is very secure and restricted within the organization itself.

What is the difference between Internet and Intranet?

Where the Internet provides unlimited information that can be viewed and used by anyone, whereas in the Intranet, the data circulates only within the organization.

Internet can be accessed by everyone and everywhere, whereas Intranet can be used only by authenticated users.

The Internet is not owned by any single or multiple organization, whereas Intranet being a private network, it comes under a firm or institution.

Internet is a ‘public network’ so it is available to everyone, whereas Intranet is a ‘private network’ so it is not available to everyone.

Intranet is much safer than the Internet.

 How does the Internet work

Computers in the Internet are connected with each other through small networks.  Wherein these networks are connected through gateways with the Internet Backbone.

Whereas all computers communicate with each other on the Internet through TCP/IP, which is a Basic Protocol (i.e set of rules) of the Internet.

TCP / IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) manages all the transmission happening in the Internet, no matter what the data / file / document is, but to do this, they have to convert that data / file / documents into small pieces.  It has to be broken into parts which are called packets or datagrams.

 Functions of TCP and IP

 1. The job of TCP is that it breaks the messages into small packets which are transmitted to the internet and then later they are also reassembled, those small packets in the oringinal message which are received.  via internet.

 2. The job of IP is that it handles the address part of each part, so that the data can be sent to the correct address.  Each gateway checks this address of the network to see where the message is being forwarded.

 History Of Internet

Talking about the history of Net, in 1969 it used to take its first step in the world, and due to the change of time and technology, it went ahead and now B is not taking the name of stopping.  Know a little more.

 1. Internet originated from ARPANET (ADVANCE RESEARCH PROJECT AGENCY network).

 2. ARPANET was part of the Defense Department of America in 1969.

 3. Initially this network was created to send secret letters through computer, its name was ARPANET.

 4. Initially this idea was used to connect the computers of five US universities.  By the decade of 1972, it was connected to 23 nodes of the world and different countries of the world, which was later named Internet.

 5. In the beginning, this network was used as a ‘Private Network’, later it was reached and changed throughout the year and now you know what is the Internet through this Internet and you are studying the history of Internet.

 Internet Access

 1. For exchanging electronic mail

More than 85% of people connected to the Internet use the Internet to send and receive email.  More than 20 million emails are exchanged in a week.

 2. Research to do

Internet is a very big source of documents, books, research papers etc. That’s why people use it to do their research.

 3. Files can be downloaded or uploaded

Here many such files are uploaded through many websites such as Movies, Songs, Videos, Documenteries etc.  If you want to watch them then you have to download them which requires internet.

 4. Having Discussion Groups

If you want to know about a topic or get an opinion from an expert about it, then you can use Discussion Groups.  Here you will find many experienced and experts for expert advice about something.

 5. Interactive games to play

If you are getting bored then you can play cool and fun interactive games on the Internet for your entertainment.
